My studio has a hybrid concept. This blends the concepts of old school recording with Acoustic drums, hardware preamps and real mics to newer digital recreations of the hardware.
With the dawning of the digital age I am definitely savvy with production using a DAW and accentuating tracks with plugins. The world of audio is fully immersed in digital recreations of coveted hardware rack gear that cost exponentially more and is virtually indistinguishable from the hardware counterparts.
Tip :
For going into any recording studio:
Make sure you have all your ducks in a row with the structure of the songs, so no time is wasted trying to redo parts and back- tracking.
Make sure your performance is spot on so no time will be wasted trying to redo parts or edit out mistakes. I have the capability to do endless takes and patch things together through editing, however there is only so much I can do as an engineer to help a poor performance and arranging.
On the other hand if you come into the studio and want to spend time creating a song with some ideas you might have essentially factoring in some experimentation from the beginning.
